PROJECT UPDATE FROM OUR FOUNDER, LEXY SANGUINETTI
When COVID-19 struck in 2020 it devastated our company and halted all travel plans for this unique international philanthropic collaboration. Our family business suffered significant losses in revenue, time and opportunity after initiating, designing and planning what was supposed to be a milestone volunteer trip to Kenya for DesignLab Give (DLG).
DLG is a Miami-based, non-profit organization offering creative skills training and sewing resources to identified beneficiary groups globally. When physical travel to Kenya became impossible for the Miami-based group, the training and delivery of sewing essentials was arranged virtually. Shortly thereafter, a select group of women in western Kenya, became DLG's first Africa-based sewing training beneficiary.
Today, growing partnerships and flourishing virtual friendships exist between the US-based donor organization and a growing number of East African women's groups. In addition to Dago Self Help Group, Arise For Families in Kasese, Uganda and Hear Congo, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, continue to benefit from the connection we made with DLG less than 2 years ago!
In 2021, COVID-permitting, we intend to host DLG in Kenya and arrange visits for them to spend time with their beneficiary partners. With the negative impact of the pandemic on the travel industry as a whole, our company is appealing now, more than ever, for support of our work as we recover from our losses. While we are NOT a nonprofit entity like some of our collaborating partners, we offer majority of our professional services pro bono or at significantly discounted rates to facilitate the important work of nonprofit organizations. Our involvement always costs us time, money and other valuable resources which we rarely are adequately compensated for.
Help us today by sharing this collaborative work or sponsoring us to execute this life-changing experience for many in 2021. You may directly support any one of our listed nonprofit partners as well. No offer is too small to go a long way in making this a beneficial experience for Kenyan and American women. We especially welcome in-kind sponsorships from transport, accommodation and experience providers in Kenya. Any complimentary or discounted products and services you can offer will allow us to host this giving group successfully and to reach more women and girls in Africa.
With Gratitude,
